HEART OF THE NORTH CLUB HISTORY
The Delta-Menominee “Heart of the North” Lions Club was officially chartered in May, 2004. We chartered 44 members and joined 66 other Lions Clubs in Single District 10, which encompasses the entire Upper Peninsula. Over the winter of 2004, the club evolved. About six women got together and discussed forming a club. At the next meeting, there were a dozen women and the idea grew from there. As of January 2010, we have 48 members. These women are from the surrounding areas of Bark River, Escanaba, Gladstone, Perronville, Wilson, and Crivitz, WI. We invite anyone who wants to have some fun and enjoy good company, to come and join our club. In 2004, the Delta-Menominee “Heart of the North” Lions Club was only the second club consisting of all women in the Upper Peninsula. The only other club is Ishpeming’s Tri-Township Lions Club. Our 1st Annual Flea Market was held in July of 2005. It was a wonderful success. This event keeps getting bigger and bigger every year. Our 6th Annual Flea Market will be held June, 2010 at the Bark River Sports Complex in "downtown" Bark River. New this year: Croation Chicken Dinner!! We look forward to seeing you there!! In 2008, we hosted the Single District 10 Lions Convention. The events were held at the Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan. We are proud of this huge accomplishment. We are extremely thankful to the Bark River Lions Club for initially sponsoring our club and there continued support throughout the years. We also thank our Guiding Lions, Bruce LaBelle and PDG Joe Potvin and also PDG Harold Schermer. You were all instrumental in developing this club. We cannot thank you enough.
